Hello! My name is Juan Pereira.
I’m a 20-year-old Venezuelan born in Punto Fijo, a small town located on the Paraguaná peninsula, surrounded by beaches and beautiful lands. I currently live in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, where I am studying Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad Metropolitana.
For me bilingualism is an opportunity that every child, adolescent, and adult should pursue. Being fluent in two languages and knowing how to communicate in the right way can present many opportunities in your life. Whether it is to make friends in other countries around the world, job offers, or other unique experiences. I learned English because I always felt attracted to this language... when I was a little boy I played video games on my Nintendo 64 and didn’t understand what the characters were talking about, when I watched movies in English and the Spanish subtitles weren’t available, or when my cousins from the US came to Venezuela and I didn’t know how to talk to them. This pushed me to learn English slowly by myself, and it also bothered me that I didn't know it. Playing video games in English at the age of 10-11 years old, without realizing it at first, the communication between the characters started to make sense, due to the actions that the characters made or what the game was based on.
Watching movies in English with Spanish subtitles helped me a lot with pronunciation, but the best exercise I can recommend is to watch a TV series or movie in Spanish with English subtitles on, so you understand what they say in your native language and you will also know how to write the English word, and even the complete sentences. I’ve noticed that in the practice you’ll find the results. By the time my family came again from the US, they were very impressed with my English!
English has given me many opportunities and beautiful experiences, of which I feel very proud of myself. With all this I want to tell you that, if I can do it, you can also do it. You don’t have to go to an English school or pay a lot of money for an English course in another country. You just need to want to improve yourself.

Soy un venezolano de 20 años nacido en la ciudad de Punto Fijo, una pequeña ciudad ubicada en la península de Paraguaná, rodeada de playas y paisajes hermosos. Actualmente vivo en Caracas, la capital de Venezuela, en donde estudio Ingeniería Mecánica en la Universidad Metropolitana.
Para mí el bilingüismo es una oportunidad que todo niño, adolescente y adulto debe de aprovechar. Aprender dos idiomas de manera fluida y saber comunicarse de buena forma puede presentarte muchas oportunidades en tu vida. Ya sea conocer amigos en otros países alrededor del mundo, oportunidades de trabajo y experiencias únicas. Aprendí ingles ya que siempre me sentí atraído a este idioma, desde pequeño cuando jugaba video juegos en mi Nintendo 64 y no entendía que era lo que hablaban los personajes, cuando veía películas con audio en inglés y los subtítulos no estaban disponibles o cuando mis primos de Estados Unidos venían a Venezuela y no sabía cómo hablar con ellos. Esto me impulsó a aprender inglés poco a poco por mi cuenta y de la misma manera en la que me molestaba por no saberlo. Ya al jugar video juegos en inglés a los 10-11 años sin darte cuenta le van encontrando sentido a las frases, debido a las acciones que hacen los personajes o sobre lo que se basa el juego.
Viendo películas o series en inglés con subtítulos en español te hace familiarizarte con la pronunciación, pero el mejor ejercicio que recomiendo es ver la serie o película en español con los subtítulos en inglés, así entiendes en tu idioma nativo lo que dicen y además sabrás como escribir las palabras e incluso las frases completas. Me di cuenta que en la práctica es donde se encuentran los resultados. ¡Ya para cuando volvieron a visitarme mis primos de Estados Unidos quedaron impresionados con mi inglés!
De verdad a mí el inglés me ha brindado muchas oportunidades y experiencias muy bonitas de las cuales me siento muy orgulloso de mi mismo. Con esto quiero decirte que, si yo pude tú también puedes hacerlo. No tienes que ir a alguna escuela de inglés o pagar mucho dinero por un curso en otros países, solo necesitas ganas de superarte a ti mismo.
